Our Kids Are Our Coworkers

Our Kids Are Our Coworkers

Our kids are our co-workers. The bathroom is the new water cooler. It’s hard to tell who’s the boss.

I don’t need to tell you that we’re parenting in unprecedented times; I will only ask you: How are you responding? I’ll bet it depends on the day, and sometimes the hour. Let’s take our own time, and peer into the current physiology of our homes. What’s helping us to function effectively? Where are the areas of stress/concern/conflict? What might influence balance? (Also, when will this end?!?)

Answers to all these questions are considered through the lens of mindfulness. You can expect to: (1) reassess your role at home; (2) hone in on some areas for immediately alleviating tension; (3) pocket some “on demand” mindfulness interventions that can be implemented over and over to effectively drop your home’s collective heart rate; and (4) leverage your harder moments to effectively step into your new role.

Join just this session: $40 + HST.

Join the session and tack on a 50 minute, one-on-one mentoring session to tailor the learning, and put it into action in your home: $165 + HST.

The Piggyback Offering (on the Ten Percent Happier Meditation Challenge) (Copy)

A big part of cultivating a meditation practice is determining what works best for you! Included in that exploration should be exposure to a wide range of styles of meditation, from different voices. The metaphor is as simple as: we listen to a lot of music to see what resonates; we like to listen to certain genres/sounds in the morning versus the evening, and every so often our tastes may change or we stumble on something new that freshens up our repertoire.

I’m a big fan of the Ten Percent Happier app, and whenever offered, I partake in the Ten Percent Happier meditation challenges – to reinvigorate my formal practice, to meet new influences, and to commune. Whether you are looking to re-energize an existing practice, or to learn more about meditation, this would be a good (read “safe, gentle, only a bit awkward”) place to jump in.

This year, I’m asking that you join me as a cohort! We can encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and learn together. The 21-day challenge is done at your own pace, and each week for the three weeks, I will piggyback a free offering: a 30-minute chat (Fridays, 12pm EST) where you can bring your questions, curiosities, excitement, frustrations and skepticism. I may even throw in five or ten minutes of straight-up meditation education.

I’m not encouraging a “resolution.” I’m seeking here to help you get on track with your very worthwhile “mental hygiene” practice. Think less “I’m going to skydive this year” and more “I’m going to try brush my teeth each day.” (I’m here for you.)

Click below to request a zoom link (and if necessary, further direction on how to join the challenge before the January 10th deadline!).

Get Unstuck + Get Clear - Part II

This may sound like the name for a pair of awesome cleaning products and in fact it is - we’re fine-tuning and polishing the mind! In this exciting two-part workshop we play with the tension between intuition and actuality. We will uncover areas where we’re feeling stuck – whether real or perceived. We will eradicate the tedium that comes with thinking ourselves in circles. We will get clear on the values and priorities that drive us. The skills you will take from this diptych are ones that you will be able to repeat and reapply: mind-hygiene exercises that will serve to continually tidy and reset the mind, and reaffirm direction. We will free up mental space to plan our course forward, and create a structure around goal-oriented actions that are a truer representation of you – and what you set out to accomplish. Come discover that your motivation is greater than your fear!

$75/person. (Note - payment reflects the cost of both sessions in this two-part workshop)

How Do You Rest?

How Do You Rest?

Sometimes, just putting a little awareness around the “how” helps us to implement and reap the benefits of the actions we take. If we’re only catching rest when we can, “sneaking it in” when we think no one is looking and convincing ourselves that the detrimental side of some of our “relaxing” habits aren’t a big deal, then it might be a good time to have the conversation. That’s exactly what this is – a conversation. I will play the role of moderator, in the hopes that while sharing and relating, we are also personally assessing, gaining insight and potentially redefining our approach to rest. At this clip, there’s no better time to prioritize and implement a practical strategy (perhaps it’s just a tweak) that allows you to sit in a place of rest so as to effectively absorb the multitude of benefits real rest affords us.

$40/person.

School's In: How to Support a Mindful Transition Back

Something we all face in the fall is the adjustment “back to school.” There are preparations involved, mindset shifts to be made, and new social and performance expectations awaiting us.

Of course this year's return will be compounded by the realities/restrictions of Covid-19. It wasn’t clear that kids were even going back, nor in what capacity. Uncertainty and newness remain part of this pandemic journey and naturally, concerns are raised about how we navigate them as we head back to the classroom (in person or otherwise!).

Join this conversation to better understand and normalize apprehensions you or your children may be experiencing. Pick up some practical tools for re-entry. Also, remind yourself of some mindfulness strategies for growing your awareness, patience and resilience around transitions - and this one in particular.

This is an inclusive workshop - all parents and caregivers welcome.

***Proceeds are for donation.

What Our Kids Need To Thrive

For anyone who has them, this will be the “Summer of Kids!” With minimal camp offerings, working from home, this unprecedented time is putting pressure on our flex points.

These mid-week sessions are an opportunity to converse, relate and share with other parents and caregivers, and to slow down, check-in and recalibrate.

“What Our Kids Need To Thrive” is a mindfulness-inspired approach to parenting that hinges on the quality of our connection with our kids. Spoiler alert: What our kids need is you, a more conscious you! We will be reminded of what it takes to strengthen our connections, and where we go to troubleshoot when necessary.

Please be advised each workshop carries a suggested donation of $20 (although any amount is welcome!), all proceeds to be donated to Snowflake Place for Children and Youth: A child advocacy centre in Winnipeg, Canada focusing on the needs of children who have experienced abuse.
